What’s the first thing you do when you get to the office every morning? For me, it starts with coffee. Once I sit down, the first thing I do is power up my computer and check my email.
Because I work with teams across our company, I live and die by my calendar. As a result, my calendar, along with my notes, are synced to my smartphone. At any given time I interact with my email, various Google Drive documents, multiple employees on our instant messaging app, and our product sites simultaneously. As you can guess, my computer comes with me to most meetings and home with me most nights.
You may or may not work at a tech company, but I bet your day isn’t that different from mine. Regardless of industry, every company has essentially become a tech company. In this digital age, most people communicate more through instant messaging and email than through phone or face to face. This probably causes you to rely on no less than half a dozen software applications every morning before you’ve even made it to the second cup of coffee. Those apps are probably specialized for your work and department.
I can guarantee your company has, at minimum, dozens of software programs across different teams — and those are just the company sanctioned ones. On top of all that, whether you work in manufacturing, retail, energy, consumer goods, finance or something else entirely, I promise you that you have some folks on staff that are writing code. Just yesterday I was at a technology event, and in the career area I saw a clothing company and a shoe manufacturer both recruiting software engineers.
If you’ve been in the game a while, you’ve seen the core competencies needed for success in your company shift very dramatically across the past couple of decades. It’s pretty incredible. This dynamic environment gives people and companies more opportunity than ever before for rapid innovation, as well as spectacular failure.
I’m incredibly passionate about a few things. I love making products that solve real problems, and that people want to use. I also love knowledge sharing. I truly believe that most issues are avoided or solved through communication, and that everyone has a unique perspective to add to a conversation and make things better.
When I started thinking about PREX17 and the kind of content I was excited to work on, all of this kept coming to mind. We strive to offer leadership and academic sessions and experts, but the pervasiveness of technology is more embedded into your everyday life, professionally and personally, than ever before. There’s no sign of things slowing down, in fact quite the opposite. That’s why it is important to me that the conference reflect this, because it’s not a matter of if you’ll need to navigate these changes, it’s a matter of how. My goal was for us to craft sessions that help you drive successes, and avoid potential failures.
I’m proud to say that I think we’ve done it with a few expansions to our program. This year at PREX17, we’ve got some exciting changes in the form of not one or two, but three separate content tracks:

What else can you expect at PREX17?
First, PREX17 will continue the tradition of thought leadership, case law, rules review and expertise. We’ll hear from judges, counsel and practitioners across the corporate landscape and beyond.
Additionally, PREX17 will also focus a track on you, your team, your company and the collaboration across the diverse communication media. We’ll talk about everything from strategies for “quick wins” when executing change management, to social media and what the idea of legal compliance means as an up and coming discipline.
Lastly, since you can’t get by these days without some automation and applications to help you do your work, PREX17 will feature a forum to explore tools that can help you optimize integrations across whatever applications may already be in place at your company. We’ll also dig into security topics so you know where to focus your time and energies to keep your company as secure as possible.
